Send a broadcast to your audience
Updated
A broadcast is one message sent to a group of people you already have in Dartzo, for example “my new course opens tonight” to everyone who tapped a button in the last day. It is the one place in Dartzo where you start the conversation yourself instead of answering a comment, so Instagram’s rules matter more here than anywhere else. This page explains who can actually receive one and how to read the result.
Who can receive a broadcast
Instagram lets a business message someone only for 24 hours after that person last messaged the business. A comment does not count, and neither does a DM you sent them. Dartzo applies this rule to every broadcast, and then adds a margin.
| Counts as them messaging you (opens the window) | Does not open it |
|---|---|
| Tapping a button in one of your DMs | Commenting on a post or reel |
| Typing a reply, or sending you a new DM | Following you |
| Replying to your story, or mentioning you in theirs | A DM or broadcast that you sent them |
| Opening a ref link into your DMs | Having been saved as a lead a month ago |
Dartzo stops 6 hours short of the 24, the same margin it uses everywhere (see Limits and windows). In practice a person is reachable for about 18 hours after their last message. Dartzo checks the clock again at the moment each message is sent, so someone whose window closed while the broadcast was running is skipped rather than messaged.
Dartzo does not offer a way to message people outside the window, and nothing on the page asks you to. “Recurring notifications”, which would reach opted-in people later, appears in the composer greyed out with a Coming soon badge. It is not available.
Send a broadcast
- Open Growth → BroadcastsChoose Growth in the sidebar, then the Broadcasts tab, then New broadcast. You need a connected Instagram account; Dartzo sends from your most recently connected one.
- Choose the audienceUnder Audience, pick a Segment, or leave it on All leads. Segments are saved filters you build on the Leads page; see People and leads. A segment rule called “Inside the 24h messaging window” narrows a group to people who can receive this right now.
- Write the messageGive it an internal Name (only you see it), then the Body. The counter allows up to 950 characters. Add a Link if you want one.
- Check “Who gets it — right now”The panel on the right updates as you change the segment. Reachable now is the number who will get the message. Skipped is everyone in the segment who will not, with the reason.
- Review & sendPress Review & send, read the confirmation (“Send to N contacts in the window now”), then press Send to N. If nobody is reachable the button reads Nobody reachable now and nothing is sent.
Sending takes a snapshot of who is in the segment at that moment. The message then goes out in batches through the same sender your automations use, so it respects Instagram’s per-second limit and your account’s pause state. A large broadcast can take a while; the page keeps updating while it runs.
Writing for a broadcast
- It is one plain text message. No images, no buttons you design, no follow-ups.
- A Link is delivered as a tap button labelled Open link, unless you paste the URL or
{{link}}into the text yourself. Buttons only appear in the Instagram mobile app, so put the link in the text too if people may read on a desktop. - A message with a button has a shorter text allowance (640 characters instead of 1,000). If you add a link, keep the body well under 640 so nothing is cut.
{{username}}in the text becomes the person’s Instagram username, or “there” when Dartzo does not know it.- A link goes through Dartzo’s short link like any other (see Tracked links), but a broadcast has no automation, so do not expect its clicks in your per-post analytics.
Reading the result
Each broadcast on the Broadcasts page shows a status badge, the message, counters and a progress bar (“N/M accounted”).
| Counter | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Sent | Instagram accepted the message. |
| In window (queued) | Reachable and still waiting for their turn to be sent. |
| Skipped | Not sent, on purpose. Their window had closed, or they have no messaging ID because they have never DMed you. |
| Failed | Dartzo tried and Instagram refused. Shown only when there is at least one. |
| Total | Everyone in the segment at the moment you pressed send. |
The badge moves from Sending to Sent only when every person has an outcome, not when the broadcast starts. A broadcast with nobody reachable finishes at once with every skip counted.
Plan
Broadcasts are on Pro, Max and Ultra, and during a 14-day trial. On Free the Broadcasts page shows “Broadcasts are Pro — see plans” and the composer is not available. Reading past broadcasts stays free. Details are in Plans and features and on the pricing page.
