Instagram comment-to-DM automation for content creators and influencers

"Comment LINK and I'll send it" is the format that gets the most comments on a Reel — Dartzo is what actually sends the DM when hundreds of people do.

"Comment X and I'll DM you" is one of the strongest calls-to-action on Instagram, because commenting is nearly free for the viewer and it directly boosts the Reel. The problem shows up right after it works: if two hundred people comment, you cannot personally DM two hundred people before the moment passes. Answering the first twenty and quietly abandoning the rest isn't just extra work you didn't finish — it's a promise you made on camera that a chunk of your audience watched you not keep.

Dartzo sends the DM to everyone who comments the keyword, at whatever volume the Reel gets, without you touching your phone after you hit post. You set the keyword and the message once; it runs on every matching comment from then on.

The setup

  1. Pick the post and the keyword
The Reel you're promising the DM on, and the exact word you say on camera — "LINK", "FREEBIE", "GUIDE". Story replies and story mentions are separate triggers if the promise is in a story instead of a Reel.
  2. Write the DM once
Your link, an opening line if you want the DM to feel less abrupt than a link on its own, and up to three buttons. A/B variations let you test two versions of the message without building two automations.
  3. Gate it if you want followers first
Follow-to-unlock is the natural fit for creator content — "follow to get the link" is a real ask, and Dartzo enforces it rather than relying on the honor system.
  4. What the fan sees
They comment, get a quick public reply confirming it's coming, and the DM lands — reading exactly like you sent it, because the promise you made on camera is the one that arrives.

What to write

Comment keywordWhat the DM saysWhere it sends them
LINK"Here's the link I promised — thanks for watching 🙂 [link]"The exact product, video, or page shown in the Reel
GUIDE"Sending the guide now — follow to keep the next ones coming. [link]"A free downloadable guide, gated behind follow-to-unlock
FREEBIE"It's yours — grab it below before the link expires. [link]"A limited-time freebie or template pack

What to expect

A Reel that performs the way "comment X" content is supposed to perform can generate a comment spike well past what Instagram will accept as private replies in a single hour. Dartzo paces sends under Instagram's published cap on purpose, and queues the rest rather than dropping them — those queued DMs still go out, still inside Instagram's reply window (roughly 7 days for a post or Reel comment, 24 hours for a story reply or mention).

Every comment that matches becomes a job you can see the outcome of — sent, queued, expired, or failed with a reason — in the delivery log. That log is what lets you say "everyone who commented got the link" and mean it, instead of hoping the automation kept up during your best-performing post of the month.

Limits worth knowing
Instagram allows exactly one private reply per comment, ever — a fan who comments your keyword five times in excitement still gets one DM. A per-person cooldown also prevents the same person from getting DM'd repeatedly across different posts in a short window. Buttons in the DM only render on the Instagram mobile app, not desktop, so keep the link in the message text as well. Full numbers: Limits and windows.

Common questions

Can I use the same keyword across every Reel I post?
Yes — "apply to my next post" carries an automation forward automatically, so you don't have to rebuild the keyword and message from scratch every time you post.
What if a Reel goes viral overnight while I'm asleep?
The automation keeps running with no one at the keyboard — that's the point. Sends pace against Instagram's limits automatically, and anything that has to wait queues rather than getting lost, so you wake up to a delivery log instead of a backlog you have to work through by hand.
Can I run the same promise from a story instead of a Reel?
Yes — story reply and story mention are their own triggers, each with the same keyword matching. A story reply's window is shorter (24 hours) than a post or Reel comment's, since that's Instagram's rule for story messaging generally.
Does the DM look automated to the person receiving it?
No — it reads as a normal DM from your account, in plain language, with no mention of how it was sent. The fan experiences a fast reply to the exact thing they asked for.
Can I test two different DM wordings to see which converts better?
Yes, with A/B variations on the same automation — Dartzo rotates between the versions you write rather than needing two separate automations for one keyword.
